In addition to being a self-employed brick mason since age 15, he was a bus contractor for the Juniata Valley School District for over 40 years, a truck driver for the former Strickler's Dairy and a plant manager for the Petersburg Water Authority for over 30 years. He enjoyed his work and was an avid sports fan. He excelled at baseball, playing for the Petersburg, Shaver's Creek, and Belleville teams in the adult league.
