John W. "Red" Scott

 

John William Scott, 77, of 7206 Juniata Valley Pike, Petersburg, Logan Township, died at 11:30 pm, Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Born May 16, 1930, at his family home in Logan Township, he was a son of the late John William Scott, Sr. and Mary (Cresswell) Scott. He was united in marriage to the former Shirley J. Taylor, on May 29, 1950, in Cumberland, MD. Mrs. Scott survives at their Logan Township residence.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and four sons, Barbara S. Port and husband, Sheldon; Raymond L. Scott, Robert T. Scott and companion, Teri Smith; Timothy Scott and wife, Connie, all of Logan Township; and Michael D. Scott and wife, Judy, Alexandria; sixteen grand children and eleven great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Laura Detar and husband George, Greensburg.

He was preceded in death by a son, John William Scott III, July 24, 1988; a grand daughter, Amanda Andria Scott, June 22, 1981; and a brother, James H. Scott.

Mr. Scott was a member of the Crever United Methodist Church, where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees. He belonged to the Central District Volunteer Firefighters and was also a member of the Juniata Valley Senior Citizens organization where he served in a number of important positions.

Mr. Scott was a 1948 graduate of the Juniata Valley High School. He retired in 1996 with 25 years of service with the Pennsylvania Game Commission as a heavy equipment operator. From 1971 until his employment with the Game Commission, he farmed on the family farm in Logan Township. He also served as the Auditor for Logan Township for a number of years.

A lifetime resident of Logan Township and Huntingdon County, Mr. Scott enjoyed camping, outdoor activities, hunting and family activities with his wife, children, grand children and great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 26 at the Crever United Methodist Church, 281 King Street, Petersburg, with Duane J. Coy officiating. Interment was made in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Petersburg.
