Computer Classes

These "Basic" classes assume no prior computer knowledge or expertise.
The idea here is to educate, not
intimidate.
There are no tests, no calling on people by name, hopefully, just willing participation.
The classes are offered free of charge to the senior citizens within the Juniata Valley.
Because of resource limitations, the size of each class is limited to 15 people.
Course Objectives:
Class #1. Overview of the computer "Hardware" or the metal parts of a computer that you can touch and feel.
The IBM Personal Computer. (What? When? Why? etc.)
The PC Blends People's strengths with the computer's strengths.
The "Byte"
Component parts of the computer hardware.
INTEL Chip history.
Check list for buying computer hardware.
Check list for buying computer software.
Class #2. The Operating System "Software" - Microsoft's "DOS" and then Microsoft "Windows".
"POST" - The computer's start up tests to see if its OK.
Definition of "Software".
"DOS" - Disk Operating System software.
Windows Operating System software.
Class #3. Spread Sheet Software.
Definition of a "Spread Sheet."
You need to have three skills to use a Spread Sheet.
Lets do a Spread Sheet on a typical loan with principal & interest, etc.
Special Spread Sheet Functions.
Class #4. Word Processing Software.
Definition of "Word Processing."
Standard Windows menus for Microsoft's "Word" and Corel's "WordPerfect."
Let's write a letter with text, graphics, photographs, etc.
